October has been declared Cybersecurity Awareness Month following a proclamation by the Governor. This initiative aims to remind Illinois residents of the importance of protecting their personal information online amid increasing digital threats.

The Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) is providing resources to assist individuals in safeguarding themselves from cyber threats. The department emphasizes the necessity of staying informed about best practices for online safety as cyberattacks become more sophisticated.

Some recommended measures to protect against cyberattacks include keeping software and operating systems updated, using strong passwords and two-factor authentication, being cautious of suspicious activity, utilizing encrypted internet communications, creating backup files, and securing home Wi-Fi networks.
