State Senator Sue Rezin has highlighted a free transportation opportunity available for Illinois veterans. "They are offering free rides for Veterans and Active Military members the whole month of November!" she said.

"Check out this awesome opportunity for Veterans from North Central Area Transit," said Rezin, according to Facebook. "They are offering free rides for Veterans and Active Military members the whole month of November!"

According to Rezin, an image of a flier with more information for veterans was attached. It explained that veterans must show proof of active military or veteran status to the driver to access this free service. The flier also directed veterans to call 833-433-6228 to schedule a ride.

To book online, individuals are required to set up an account with North Central Area Transit (NCAT), including providing an email address. Once the account is established, users should download the app or visit requestmyrides.com to arrange a ride. NCAT has specific rules for riders, which include being ready 15 minutes before their scheduled pickup time and understanding that drivers cannot wait more than five minutes after the scheduled pickup time. Passengers must remain seated and wear seat belts during the entire ride. Smoking, vaping, and consuming alcoholic beverages or drugs are prohibited on NCAT rides, as are guns, knives, and weapons on NCAT vehicles.

The NCAT service is supported by the City of Ottawa and funded through state and federal grant programs, as well as donations. Local service agreements from community agencies also contribute to making this service possible.

Rezin was appointed to the State Senate in December 2010 and has continuously served the people of the 38th Senate District. In 2021, she was selected as Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate Republican Caucus. In 2015, she collaborated with local employers to establish an Operations Engineering and Technician technical program at Joliet Junior College. She holds a degree in International Business and Political Science from Augustana College and has co-owned and managed her family’s real estate company, according to her official biography.
