James P. "Phil" Palmer, a beloved family man, a respected veteran, and a sports enthusiast, peacefully passed away at the age of 90 on November 28, 2024, leaving a legacy of hard work, dedication, and joy in simple pleasures. Born on August 19, 1934, in DeKalb, Illinois, Phil embodied values that resonated throughout his life.

Phil's commitment to his family and service to the country were steadfast. Serving honorably in the Army, he embraced discipline and honor, values that became integral to his character. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to Johns Manville until his retirement, displaying a meticulous nature and creativity in his woodworking hobby during his post-work years.

Cherishing his memory are his children, James (Nancy) Palmer, Jr., Deborah Palmer Button, and William (Amy) Palmer, alongside his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. Survived by his brother Jerry (Mary Ellen) Palmer and sister Linda Benda-Middlesworth, Phil's kindness and strength will be remembered fondly.

Preceding Phil in death were his parents, Phillip and Lila Palmer, his wife Donna, whom he cherished as his lifelong partner, and his brothers Tom and John Palmer.

Throughout his life, Phil was a dedicated sports fan, particularly rooting for the Chicago Cubs, and took immense pride in watching his grandchildren participate in their athletic endeavors. Every Friday night, he could be found at local football games, enveloped in the excitement and camaraderie of fellow fans.

Phil's legacy of love, laughter, and family bonding shines brightly. A fixture at family gatherings, he delighted in sharing stories and creating new memories. His vacations with family were filled with adventure and unity, leaving indelible marks on those fortunate enough to share those moments.

Memorials in Phil's honor may be directed to Lightways Hospice in Joliet.
