A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Mazon-Verona-Kinsman Elementary School District 2c on January 28, 2025. The request, made by us at Grundy Reporter, seeks access to all emails and memos from the past year that contain the keywords "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study."
As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe it is our duty to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public. Access to these records will help us fulfill our professional responsibilities.
We have requested these documents under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and have asked for them in an electronic format for ease of access and review. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

The average student-to-administrative ratio stands at 141:1, with an average student-to-teacher ratio of 17:1. Interestingly enough, 58% of teachers in Illinois possess a master's degree or higher.
