A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Gardner-South Wilmington Township High School District on January 28, 2025. The request, sent by us at Grundy Reporter, sought access to all emails and memos from the past year that contained specific keywords.

The keywords in question were "Lucy Calkins" and "Units of Study". As a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to these records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

We have requested these documents preferably in an electronic format under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we also requested a fee waiver for this service.
