A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Grundy County Election Division on February 5, 2025. The request, made by us at the Grundy Reporter, sought comprehensive details about all candidates running in the upcoming spring election.
The information requested included the full names of the candidates - first, middle, and last names - as well as the specific office they are running for and its jurisdiction. Additionally, we asked for each candidate's party affiliation.
In addition to these details, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to such public records is crucial for our work. It enables us to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.
We await a response from the Grundy County Election Division regarding this request.
