Illinois Senate Republican Deputy Leader Sue Rezin has expressed her concerns regarding the Governor's proposed budget, which was unveiled during his recent budget address. In her statement, Rezin criticized the budget for relying on what she described as "overly optimistic revenue projections and gimmicks to appear balanced." She emphasized that this approach leaves taxpayers to deal with the consequences once reality sets in.

Rezin pointed out that the proposed budget exceeds $55 billion, marking it as the largest spending plan in Illinois history. She highlighted that while families are making tough financial decisions due to rising living costs, the Governor's budget represents a nearly 40% increase since he took office. According to Rezin, this increase far surpasses the growth of Illinois families' incomes and places an undue burden on taxpayers.

Despite her criticisms, Rezin acknowledged a positive aspect of the proposal: "While I am encouraged to see that the Governor is finally listening to the concerns of Illinoisans by claiming he will scale back the costly non-citizen healthcare program," she remains skeptical about its long-term sustainability. She stated that a true commitment to fiscal responsibility would only be evident when final numbers are released later in spring.
