Jeffrey L. Swiggett | UC Davis-Callahan Funeral Home & Aqua Cremation Center
In 1980, Jeff married the love of his life, Claudette, and together they raised three children: Melanie, Daniel, and Samantha. Jeff proudly served in the US Army as a combat infantryman during Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada before a successful career with the Illinois Department of Corrections.
After retirement, Jeff devoted himself to caring for his grandchildren and driving a school bus for Morris Community Schools. His ten grandchildren were a source of immense pride and happiness for him.
Known affectionately as "Smiley," Jeff's gruff exterior contrasted with his tender heart and care for his family. He was described as a good man, respected at work and deeply loved at home.
Later in life, Jeff underwent a spiritual transformation and found peace and hope through his faith in Jesus Christ. His unwavering moral compass guided him through life and brought him to a place of peace.
Jeff is survived by his wife Claudette, children, grandchildren, brother Kevin, and his beloved cat Gus. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Debbie.
A memorial service for Jeff will be held at the First Baptist Church in Morris on January 25, 2025, followed by a celebration of his life officiated by Pastor Steve Larson.
Memorials in Jeff’s honor may be made to the First Baptist Church in Morris. Arrangements are entrusted to U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home.
An online guestbook is available for sharing memories and condolences. Jeff will be laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood at a later date.
