After graduating from Streator Township High School in 1974, Jack's career led him to Caterpillar in Aurora and later to the Comed Dresden Plant, where he devoted himself to the mechanical maintenance department until his retirement in 2018.
In 2002, Jack found love and joy in his life when he met Sandy Henson, whom he married in 2005. Together, they created a warm home in Coal City. Jack is survived by his wife, Sandy; children Jason Summers, Jennifer Hampton, and Jeff Clayton; grandchildren Anna Vella, Brooke Vella, Natalie Summers, Brighton Summers, and Paige Summers; and great-granddaughter Avielyn Bensa. He is also remembered by his sisters, Wendy Ward and Kathy Ragusa, along with nieces and nephews.
Jack enjoyed the outdoors, spending time camping and was a member of Coal City Area #1 Club and the Ceco Club. His love for his grandchildren and family was evident in every moment shared together. Jack also cherished gatherings with loved ones over pizza at Bianchis in Ottawa.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Jack's life will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the UC Davis-Callahan Funeral Home in Morris. A celebration of Jack’s life will follow, officiated by Pastor Kevin Yandell. Cremation rites have been accorded.
