The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced a substantial allocation of $400 million aimed at supporting local transportation projects throughout the state. This funding is intended to assist communities in enhancing roads, transit systems, and pedestrian access.

Eligible cities, counties, and other local agencies are invited to apply for this funding by submitting proposals through IDOT's online form. The deadline for applications is June 1, 2025. Further information can be found in the official Notice of Funding Opportunity.

To aid applicants in navigating the process, IDOT will host Special Programs Assistance Conferences (SPAC) across Illinois. These events are designed to offer guidance on various funding programs such as the Economic Development Program, the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP), and Safe Routes to School. Additionally, IDOT staff will be available for one-on-one project consultations.

In conjunction with this initiative, IDOT is also providing $33 million through its Local Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). This program focuses on projects that aim to reduce traffic injuries and fatalities, with particular attention given to rural roads and bike/pedestrian safety. These efforts align with the state's Vision Zero goals.

More detailed information regarding all programs, deadlines, and support resources is available through IDOT's communication channels.
