Applications for the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Program are now open, with submissions accepted until September 30, 2025. The OSLAD program is a state-funded initiative designed to support local governments in acquiring or developing land for parks, nature areas, and outdoor recreation facilities.
The grant can cover up to 50 percent of project costs and as much as 90 percent for under-resourced communities. Grant awards for land acquisition may reach $1,725,000, while grants for development or renovation projects are capped at $600,000. Applicants must be pre-qualified through the State of Illinois Grantee Portal.
Eligible applicants include local government organizations in Illinois that have the legal authority to use public funds for purchasing or developing land dedicated to parks, recreation, or conservation purposes. School districts do not qualify for OSLAD funding.
