Jay Alan Ransom | Ferrari Funeral Services - Coal City

Jay Alan Ransom, aged 66, of Lockport, IL, formerly of Coal City, tragically passed away from a heart attack on February 4, 2025, at his residence. Born on March 15, 1958, in Morris, IL, Jay was the son of Lavina (nee Hougas) Ransom.

A devoted member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Jay played a crucial role in supporting the Alano Club of Joliet, working as its secretary and later becoming its President. He was an integral part of writing the organization's by-laws and handling financial matters. Additionally, Jay served as the Area 52 DCM and left a lasting impact on the organization.

Jay's passion for the arts was evident through his work in plays, theatre, commercials, and movies over the years. He played the bass guitar in a band during high school and had a love for gardening with his partner, Cynthia. With a keen interest in music and a fondness for discussing current events and his experiences growing up in Coal City, Jay was a well-rounded individual cherished by his loved ones.

Survived by his sister Terri Irish, brother Jon Ransom, companion Cynthia Ross, and numerous friends and relatives, Jay's legacy lives on through those who knew and loved him. In honor of Jay, donations to the Alano Club of Joliet are appreciated.

A cremation was conducted, and inurnment with full military honors will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
