The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) has launched a new round of assistance through the Illinois Court-Based Rental Assistance Program (CBRAP). The initiative provides emergency rental support to tenants who are at risk of eviction due to unpaid rent.

CBRAP aims to help keep families in their homes and reduce homelessness across the state. Eligible households may receive up to $10,000 for overdue rent, as much as $700 for court costs, and up to two months of future rent payments.

Payments from the program are made directly to landlords. Landlords must agree to dismiss any ongoing eviction proceedings in order for tenants to remain in their residences. The benefit is provided one time and does not require repayment.

Eligibility requirements include residency in Illinois, active involvement in an eviction court case, and a household income at or below 80% of the local median income.

Applications for both tenants and landlords can be accessed at illinoishousinghelp.org.

Sue Rezin, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 2010 representing the 38th Senate District after replacing Gary G. Dahl.
