George T. Gore passed away on September 6 at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago after battling Lymphoma. Born on October 30, 1966, in Hinsdale, IL, to Arthur and Marion (Tanner) Gore, George dedicated his life to service and community involvement.

He attended Saratoga School after the family moved to Morris in 1973. George graduated as an honor student from Morris High School in 1984. He earned a Navy ROTC Scholarship to Vanderbilt University, where he received a B.Sc. in Engineering in 1988.

George served as a supply officer in the Navy from 1988 to 1994, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. Stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, for two years with the USS Reeves, he had the opportunity to visit various Pacific ports, including Australia. Despite facing injuries from friendly fire, George courageously continued his service, later stationed in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Upon returning to Illinois, George pursued an education in teaching at Illinois State University. Dedicated to education, he taught at Bloomington High School and Waverly Jr. High School before returning to Morris in 2006.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Morris, Grundy County Historical Society, and the Illinois Audubon Society, George was committed to serving his church, community, and those in need.

He is survived by his mother Marion, sister Ann (Brett) Goodwin, and nephews Joshua and Ryan Goodwin of Waldron, IN. George was preceded in death by his father Arthur in January 2019 and his aunt Dorothy Gore in June 2020.

A graveside ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 11:00 am at Evergreen Cemetery in Morris, officiated by Rev. James Friesen. Memorial contributions can be made to either the First Presbyterian Church of Morris or We Care of Grundy County.
