As harvest season progresses in Illinois, farmers are returning to the fields and using large equipment to collect crops. This increased activity leads to more slow-moving vehicles such as tractors and combines on rural roads, prompting officials to urge caution among motorists.

A study from the University of Illinois-Chicago found that between 2018 and 2023, there were nearly 530 crashes per year involving agricultural vehicles on Illinois roadways.

State Senator Sue Rezin highlighted both the efforts of local farmers and the need for safety during this period. "Harvest season is a time to recognize the hard work of our farmers, but also a moment to increase caution on rural roads. She urges motorists to slow down, give large equipment plenty of space, and for farmers to use visible lights and signals so everyone can stay safe during this harvest season."

Rezin has served as a Republican member of the Illinois State Senate representing the 38th District since her election in 2010, succeeding Gary G. Dahl.
