Minooka CCSD 201’s new school security team had the chance to talk to members of the district board of education about the program and what they, as a team, have been able to accomplish so far.

Lead School Security Officer Scott Lustik spoke about the program during the board’s meeting on January 24.

“Very proud of this program. We’re very excited. We’re enjoying ourselves with the students and the staff, teaching them safety, teaching them about run, hide, fight and just basically being their protection,” Lustik said during the meeting. “We like to use the term we’re there for the students and staff and not because of the students and staff.”

Lustik formally introduced himself to the board. He has 31 years of law enforcement experience and retired from Bolingbrook Police before spending a year in Yorkville Schools for the same program. His other team members, Todd Miller, David Graham, and Larry Collins, all have law enforcement backgrounds.

The team has already worked with both students and staff. They also walk around the building to make sure all the doors are properly closed while school is in session and aren’t being used incorrectly.

All members are CIT certified and recently attended a Sandy Hook tragedy training seminar. Lustik says the team has a great relationship with area public safety and is excited to keep working to protect the students and the staff.
