Plano Community Unit School District 88 Board met Aug. 7.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

I CALL TO ORDER

President Campbell called the special meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Present for roll call were Campbell, Jernigan, Klatt and Waldrop. Member Ward arrived at 6:02 p.m., Member Martinez arrived at 6:04 p.m. and Member Velazquez was absent. Others present were High School Principal Jim Seput, Director of Teaching and Learning Tracy Thurwanger, PASEC Director Amy Lee, Superintendent Garcia and Board Secretary Benoit. Office staff present: Appel.

PLEDGE TO THE FLAG

II APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Jernigan moved, and Waldrop seconded the motion, to approve the agenda as printed, with a revised personnel report. Voting aye: Jernigan, Waldrop, Campbell and Klatt. Motion carried: 4 ayes, 0 nays, 3 absent.

III OPPORTUNITY FOR VISITORS TO SPEAK

The following visitors were present: Vicki Kern, Denel Whitmer, Leonor Contreras, Sue Olson, Deanne Henle, Colleen Klema, Pam Ohme, Misty Horsley, Jeff Johnson, David Covert, Angie Coakley, Becky Iverson, Cindy Mueller, Lisa Hunt, Nancy Kick, Sue Rydzewski, Shirley Gibbons, Ron Podschweit, Tony Abbinanti, Andres Colon and Yvonne Hill. There were no media representatives present.

Sue Olson asked to address the Board and discussed her concern about bus routes that were just posted for bidding by Plano District bus drivers and aides. She said the ESAP Negotiations Team understood that the majority of the routes would be in the Tier II section of the contract, but when routes were posted they found that the majority were in Tier III. Speaking for the bus drivers that were present, Mrs. Olson said that many people would receive a decrease in their pay based on the new route packages. Dr. Garcia and Board President Campbell recommended that members of the Negotiations Teams from the Board and Support Staff sit down and review the agreement. Dr. Garcia said the two parties could meeting at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8th.

Vicki Kern addressed the Board about the same subject. She said that she did not feel that the Board appreciates the transportation employees. President Campbell said the Board appreciates the group’s work and is sorry that they don’t feel valued. Mrs. Kern said she and those present felt the route packages were unfair and that they should be openly discussed. Both parties agreed to meet on August 8th.

The Transportation Department was scheduled to have a breakfast meeting to discuss route picks, but they agreed to cancel the meeting until the teams could meet.

Martinez moved, and Klatt seconded the motion, to go into executive session at 6:40 p.m. to discuss student disciplinary cases (5 ILCS 120/2(c)(9)).

Voting aye: Martinez, Klatt, Campbell, Jernigan, Waldrop and Ward. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays, 1 absent.

Martinez moved, and Klatt seconded the motion, to come out of executive session at 7:18 p.m.

Voting aye: Martinez, Klatt, Campbell, Jernigan, Waldrop and Ward. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays, 1 absent.

VI ACTION FROM EXECUTIVE SESSION

Ward moved, and Martinez seconded the motion, to allow Student #17-02 to return to Plano High School for the 2017-18 school year.

Voting aye: Ward, Martinez, Campbell, Jernigan, Klatt and Waldrop. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays, 1 absent.

Ward moved, and Campbell seconded the motion, to allow Student #17-03 to return to Plano High School for the 2017-18 school year.

Voting aye: Ward, Campbell, Jernigan, Klatt, Martinez and Waldrop. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays, 1 absent.

VII ADJOURNMENT

Ward moved, and Klatt seconded the motion, to adjourn the meeting at 7:21 p.m. Voting aye: Ward, Klatt, Campbell, Jernigan, Martinez and Waldrop. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 nays, 1 absent.
