Morris Community High School District 101 Board met February 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The meeting convened at 6:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Student Council Representative:

Kam Dransfeldt reported the dance was attended by 450 students on February 10th in the field house, with many positive remarks. A blood drive is scheduled for Feb. 22nd. Student Council is conducting a “March Madness Week” with themes each day including an acts of kindness day and a 3 on 3 basketball tournament day. Monies collected during the week will be donated to ATI toward kids with cancer.

Approval Of Consent Agenda:

A co-curricular assignment was added to the consent agenda: Laurel Harper as a volunteer assistant to the guard. President Roth inquired of the board if there were any items on the consent agenda they would like removed. Hearing none, President Roth asked for a motion to approve the consent agenda. On a motion made by Mr. Hastings and Seconded by Mr. Ringer the following items were approved.

Grundy County Special Ed Cooperative – Financial Statements/Bills:

A motion was made by Mr. Danek and Seconded by Mrs. Vermillion to ratify the financial statements and bills of the Grundy County Special Education Cooperative as submitted and approved by the Grundy County Special Education Board at its meeting. On roll call vote, those voting Aye: Mr. Ringer, Mrs. Roth, Mr. Danek, Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Vermillion. Nay: None. Motion Carried.

Grundy County Special Ed Cooperative – Staff Recommendations:

A motion was made by Mr. Ringer and Seconded by Mr. Hastings to ratify the employment and resignations of staff, certified staff and program assistants of the Grundy County Special Education staff, as submitted and approved by the Grundy County Special Education Board at its meeting. On roll call vote, those voting Aye: Mrs. Roth, Mr. Danek, Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Vermillion, Mr. Ringer. Nay: None. Motion Carried.

District Report:

Dr. Halloran updated the board on the shared track improvement project including the approximate costs per district, sharing of the facility, the 20 year term of the agreement and the timeline.

The STEM project was discussed. A walk through of the anticipated classroom/lab area was conducted prior to the board meeting at 5:30 p.m.

The proposed 2018-2019 school calendar was presented, basically a “rollover” from last year with balanced semesters, the calendar was also sent to the elementary districts.

Mr. Lutz reported interviews were conducted for a custodial position with Michael Meloun being recommended.

LED lighting is being considered through Com Ed incentives for the pool and STEM lab areas.

Building Report:

Mr. Hussey reviewed upcoming dates and activities and the following: The Rising Star leadership team minutes, the 5 Essential Survey teacher, student and parent statistics, the proposed summer curriculum work and the co-curricular assignments for the 2018- 2019 school year. He also informed the board that the guidance department is looking for a volunteer board member to serve on the Anderson Scholarship selection committee.

Pause for Applauses included the following:

• Congratulations to the poms for earning the Conference title on Wednesday evening. This is the fifth consecutive year they have been named Conference Champions!

• On Saturday the Morris Lady Redskins bowled in the Morris Invitational 20 schools and 100 girls participated. Junior Cadenz Fitzgerald placed first on the individual side, averaging 218 for 6 games. Nice job Cadenz!

• Congratulations to Redskin Speech on a 2nd place Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference finish and a 4th place Sandwich Invitational finish. At Conference, the Redskins puts finalists in every event. Special congrats to tournament champions Alexander Duffy in Original Comedy, Avery Baetzel in Oratorical Declamation and Tyler Mroczek in Prose Reading. At Sandwich, Hannah Mueller was the Champion in Poetry Reading.

• Congratulations to the poms for a successful competition at Civic Memorial this past weekend. Their pom and jazz routines received the same score, tying them for first place overall. The girls are undefeated heading into IHSA Sectionals this weekend.

• Congratulations to Zach Sater for finishing 4th at the Illini classic and to Cody Baldridge who is now a two time champion of the Illini Classic and was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler by the coaches at the tournament.

• Congrats to the Morris swimmers for placing second at the LaSalle-Peru Pentathlon on 1/20. Medalists were Garrett Kirkland, Christopher Collet, Josh Houston, and Aidan Kozlowski. Great job, boys!

• Congratulations to the poms for winning the IHSA Sectionals on 1/20 at Washington High School. This top spot has qualified them for the state tournament held this 1/26 and 1/27 in Bloomington. This win marks their 6th sectional championship and trip to the state contest. Way to go girls! We are proud of you, keep up the great work!

• The Morris Wrestling team on 1/20 wrestled at the NIBXII Conference tournament in Geneseo. The wrestlers did a good job competing at one of the toughest conference tournaments in the state. 182 Cody Baldridge - Champion - 1st Team - All conference plus Oustanding Wrestler of the conference, 132 Zach Sater - 4th Place - Honorable Mention - All Conference Team, 170 Robert Bates - 5th Place, 145 Jake Eisenbeis - 6th Place, 220 R.J. Roderick - 6th Place, 285 Tyler Petty - 6th Place.

• Congratulations to Chloe Osborn for being selected to sing the National Anthem at IHSA Cheerleading State on Friday February 2nd!

• Congrats to swimmers Garrett Kirkland Christopher Collet and diver Tyler Ratcliff. Kirkland won the 100 Breastroke and took 6th place in the 200 Individual Medley, Collet placed 6th in the 50 Free and Ratcliff won Diving. All were named to the All- Conference team.

• Congratulations to the poms for earning a state runner up trophy this last weekend! After placing 2nd during the preliminary competition, they qualified for Saturday's finals. After two fantastic performances, MVP celebrated a 2nd place finish. The team heads to Orlando, FL this weekend to compete in UDA's National Dance Team Championship.

• Congratulations to the Morris Winter Guard on their opening weekend at Naperville North High School! The winter guard placed fourth in their class and have started their season off in a great place! Keep up the great work, girls!

• Congratulations to the following JV wrestlers that placed at the NIBXII Conference Open Tournament.: 106 Tristan Martin - 3rd Place, 113 Brandon Mazzoni - 3rd Place, 126 Dan Grant - 3rd place, 182 Drayden McKerrow - 4th Place.

• Congratulations to the MCHS Speech Team who are the IHSA Regional champions. This marks the 4th year in a row that MCHS has taken this honor. Special congrats go to individual event champions, Grace Johnson and Tyler Mroczek in Humorous Duet Acting, Avery Baetzel in Oratorical Declamation, Xander Duffy in Original Comedy, Tyler Mroczek in Prose Reading, Maggie Dudley in Radio Speaking and Grace Johnson in Special Occasion Speaking. The Speech Team has advanced 14 events to the IHSA Sectional at Washington High School. Congrats to all!

• Congrats to swimmer Garrett Kirkland and Diver Tyler Ratcliff for being medalists at the Illinois Swimming and Diving Conference meet on Saturday. For the Junior Varsity divers Khristian Kluever and Ben Acosta were also medalists. Great job boys!

• Congrats to Cadenz Fitzgerald, Angel Heck and Olivia Schultz! All qualified for girls bowling sectionals next week!

• The Morris Wrestling team finished in third place at the Sandwich regional in a tight team race. Morris advanced 7 to sectionals along with two alternates.

• Congratulations to the poms on their very successful trip to UDA Nationals. With the goal of making it to semifinals in either the pom or jazz category, the team surpassed these expectations making it past semifinals and into both the pom and jazz finals. This accomplishment is outstanding, and even more impressive as the first time attending. Out of 60 plus teams, MVP ended up as 15th in the nation for pom and 16th in the nation for jazz. Awesome job girls!

• Congratulations to Redskin Speech on a 4th place IHSA Sectional finish. 8 events advanced to the Sectional final round including Nick Konecki, Grace Johnson, and Alexander Duffy. And making final round and advancing to the IHSA State Finals next weekend are Jayson Zorn in Informative Speaking, Avery Baetzel in Original Oratory, Tyler Mroczek in a Prose Reading and Maggie Dudley in Radio Speaking. These four State finalists will perform this Friday and Saturday at the Peoria Civic Center.

• On Saturday, February 10, senior Mya Shannon scored her 1,500th career point in a game against Sycamore This is the first time a Morris girls basketball player has accomplished this milestone. Mya now holds the single-game scoring record, the single-season scoring record, and the career scoring record. Congratulations Mya on all of your success.

• Congratulations to all of the wrestlers who qualified for sectionals this year. Everyone gave their best effort in the states toughest 2A Sectional. 182 pounder Cody Baldridge won his 2nd sectional championship in his 4 years here. He has earned the #1 seed in his weight class for this weeks IHSA Individual State Wrestling Tournament at the State Farm Center in Champaign on the campus of the University of Illinois. He will take on Trevon Suggs of Rich South in Round one Thursday afternoon.

Resolution Of Intent To Withdraw From NIB XII Conference:

Pursuant to the Northern Illinois Big 12 Constitution, Morris CHS must adopt a resolution authorizing the superintendent or designee to provide notice to the Northern Illinois Big Twelve Conference and its member schools of the intent to withdraw from the Conference, effective in the 2018-2019 school year.

The board approved the Resolution of Intent to Withdraw from the Illinois Big Twelve Conference on a motion made by Mr. Hastings and Seconded by Mr. Danek. On roll call vote, those voting Aye: Mr. Danek, Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Vermillion, Mr. Ringer, Mrs. Roth. Nay: None. Motion Carried.

Intergovernmental Transportation Agreement Resolution:

The 5 year transportation agreement between Districts 101, 54 and 60c is due for renewal. District 60c will provide all regular and special education transportation, extra-curricular trips and other required transportation uses (Transportation Services). District 101 agrees to reimburse 60c for its share of the cost for the Transportation Services based on the total costs for all Transportation Services provided to all 3 districts, divided by each district’s proportionate use of the services. On a motion made by a Mrs. Vermillion and Seconded by Mr. Ringer the 5 year (2018-2023) Intergovernmental Transportation Agreement Resolution was approved. On roll call vote, those voting Aye: Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Vermillion, Mr. Ringer, Mrs. Roth, Mr. Danek. Nay: None. Motion Carried.

Baseball Jamboree Approval:

On a motion made by Mr. Danek and Seconded by Mr. Hastings the board approved the baseball team request to attend a baseball jamboree located in Jacksonville, IL, the weekend of March 23-25, 2018 at Lenz Field Complex. On voice vote, those voting Aye: All. Nay: None. Motion Carried.

Authorization To Seek Bids For Shared Mchs 101 Track Improvements:

Districts 101, 54 and 60c have been in discussion regarding improvements to the MCHS track to be utilized by all districts. On a motion made by Mr. Danek and Seconded by Mr. Ringer, the authorization to seek bids for the MCHS track renovation project pending District 54 and District 60c bid approvals was approved. On roll call vote, those voting Aye: Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Vermillion, Mr. Ringer, Mrs. Roth, Mr. Danek. Nay: None. Motion Carried.

IMRF (6.75) Resolution To Include Cash Payments Related To Health Insurance As Imrf Earnings:

IMRF amended the definition of reportable earnings for cash payments related to health benefits. The district’s practice is to report the cafeteria plan amount as reportable earnings under IMRF resolution 6.72, with the amended definition, the adoption of resolution 6.75 is required. On a motion made by Mr. Hastings and Seconded by Mr. Ringer, the Resolution to Include Cash Payments Related to Health Insurance as IMRF Earnings was approved. On roll call vote, those voting Aye: Mrs. Vermillion, Mr. Ringer, Mrs. Roth, Mr. Danek, Mr. Hastings. Nay: None. Motion Carried.

Teacher Request – Extended Unpaid Leave:

On a motion made by Mr. Ringer and Seconded by Mrs. Vermillion the request by faculty member Tammy Fritchtnitch to extend her unpaid leave through the 2017-2018 school year was approved. On roll call vote, those voting Aye: Mrs. Roth, Mr. Danek, Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Vermillion, Mr. Ringer. Nay: None. Motion Carried.

Employment Of Nicholas Virgl As Business Teacher:

Nicholas Virgl was employed as a business teacher for the 2018-2019 school year on a motion made by Mr. Hastings and Seconded by Mr. Danek. On roll call vote, those voting Aye: Mr. Danek, Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Vermillion, Mr. Ringer, Mrs. Roth. Nay: None. Motion Carried.

Executive Session Approval:

A motion was made by Mr. Ringer and Seconded by Mrs. Vermillion at 6:58 p.m. to enter executive session for the purpose of appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees. On roll call vote, those voting Aye: Mr. Ringer, Mrs. Roth, Mr. Danek, Mr. Hastings, Mrs. Vermillion. Nay: None. Motion Carried.
