Welter and Rezin honor 30-year Kinsman mayor

Springfield capitol bldg

Rep. David Welter and Sen. Sue Rezin, both Republicans from Morris, recently honored community pillar Mark Harlow, who died last spring.

Rezin stood by Welter’s side on the state House floor for the reading of HR1064, which honors the lifelong Kinsman resident.

After attending Kinsman Grade School and Mazon High School, Harlow married Doreen Mills in 1989 and had two children, Kaitlyn and Perry, Welter said.

“The son of a farmer, Mark grew up on the family farm where they grew corn and soybeans,” Welter added.

He said the family will remember Harlow for his love of tractors and snowmobiles, but most of all for his public service as mayor of Kinsman for more than 30 years.

“Mark will be remembered by a friend to everybody, especially for answering his phone at any time of the evening or day, whether it was to post flooding notices or plow someone’s driveway,” Welter said.

Before a moment of silence, Welter introduced Harlow’s family in the gallery, and then the resolution was adopted without a vote.
