Coal City Community Unit School District 1 issued the following announcement on Sept. 4.
We’re off to a wonderful start in Mrs. Foley and Mrs. Lamp’s 2nd grade class. Students have been working hard getting adjusted to their new routines. As part of their class team building, students worked together to save Sam. Each group was presented with Sam, a worm whose boat had capsized. Their job was to help Sam get on his life preserver only using a paperclip. Each group discussed ways to help him before they began. Students were not allowed to use their hands to save Sam. They learned about working together and communication,
