COAL CITY MIDDLE SCHOOL: Moving and Improving

Student8grade

Coal City Middle School issued the following announcement on Sept. 21.

Currently, students in Mrs. Hall’s 8th grade English classes are learning concepts associated with prepositions and dissecting sentences based on parts of speech. The students have been demonstrating their progress with these concepts in various ways.

After basic identification, students have had to mark up sentences in order to determine the function of a word in a sentence. Additionally, the students have created their own sentences using white boards by following specific organizational structures, and they have learned movements to associate with the various parts of speech.

Furthermore, there has also been a focus on the terms connected to argumentative writing. Earlier in the unit, the students reviewed the basic terms from previous years, but now, they are analyzing pieces of texts. Not only are they identifying these concepts within the texts, but they are also analyzing the strength of the arguments provided based on their knowledge of the argumentative terms. After evaluating multiple texts, students will eventually produce their own argumentative essay.
