Coal City Community Unit School District 1 issued the following announcement on Oct. 29.
This week students in Mrs. Gaffigan’s class practiced place value and decimal strategies to prepare for their upcoming benchmark math test.
Students reviewed the skills they learned in math over the first part of the school year by performing surgery on patients to cure their mathematical diseases. Upon completion of the mathematical operations, their work was checked by their surgical supervisor, Mrs. Gaffigan, before they were able to earn a degree in Place Value and Decimal surgery. Finally, students worked in teams in their individualized operating rooms to solve puzzles in order to identify who their mystery patient was.
