DRESDEN NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT 2: NRC Issues Final Supplement to Environmental Impact Statement for River Bend Nuclear Power Plant License Renewal

Publish

Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Unit 2 issued the following announcement on Nov. 9.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has published its supplemental environmental impact

statement for renewing the operating license of the River Bend nuclear power plant in Louisiana. The

report contains the NRC staff’s evaluation and conclusion that the environmental impacts would not

preclude renewing the license for an additional 20 years of operation.

River Bend is a boiling-water reactor located about 24 miles northwest of Baton Rouge. Entergy

Louisiana, LLC, and Entergy Operations Inc., submitted the renewal application on May 31, 2017.

The NRC’s review of the application consists of a technical safety review and an environmental

review. The final supplemental environmental impact statement is supplement 58 to NUREG-1437,

Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants, which is available on

the NRC’s website. The River Bend license renewal application and general information about reactor

license renewal are also available on the NRC website.
