All of Mr. Dite’s Criminal Justice 1 classes had the wonderful opportunity to meet Morris Police Deputy Chief Chad Skelton and subsequently get a behind the scenes tour of the Morris Police Department.

As our special guests, Mr. Vish and his Fire Science 1 students were also in attendance to illustrate the importance of first responders working together, especially police and fire agencies.

Deputy Chief Skelton first greeted the students and explained the skills necessary to be a successful police officer. D. C. Skelton explained the many situations where police and fire agencies work together as well as the importance of understanding each other’s capabilities.

Students learned about the design of the police department and toured through the in service training room, report writing, sergeants offices, evidence (bag and tag area), detention, armory, and the fitness center.

Additionally, the students were exposed to all of the equipment officers carry and duties such as evidence collection, report writing, handling calls for service, and booking prisoners.

Thank you very much Deputy Chief Skelton for your very knowledgeable and insightful presentation and tour, along with your professionalism in explaining what a day in the life of a police officer looks like.

And naturally, there were donuts in the break room!
