COAL CITY COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 1: Thinking of Others

Care

Coal City Community Unit School District 1 issued the following announcement on Jan. 2.

Students in Betsy Cowherd’s fourth grade class spent much of December thinking of others.

For the past couple of months, they cleaned and prepared the CCIS Winter Coat Closet. Then the second week of December they were open for shoppers. Ten students were able to come and help shoppers. For the next three weeks students were busy creating calendars for their parents. Along with that, they began writing poems for a parent. After poems were composed and typed came the really fun part. We had three grandpas visit the classroom with their electric saws! Students measured, cut, sanded, and stained wood then they attached their poems to the wood. Along with mom’s poem, students were making wooden pictures for dad. Those also needed staining. Finally, pictures, poems, ribbons, and nuts were added to complete the gifts. They also made a gift for themselves.candy houses. It was decided that creating and giving is even better than receiving.
