Village of Coal City issued the following announcement on Jan. 25.
According to The National Weather Service; Mid evening wind chills across the region have already fallen to between zero and 20 degrees below zero. Temperatures will continue to fall through the night, with the biting northwest wind helping drive the wind chills down farther into the 20 to 30 below range later tonight and continuing into Friday morning.
Limit time outdoors. If you must spend time outside, dress in multiple layers and don't leave any skin exposed. Frostbite can develop quickly in these temperatures.
Also, due to the extreme cold; water pipes can freeze in your home. Running your tap at a slow trickle may help prevent it.
