COAL CITY COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 1: Preparing For The Science Fair

Scientist

Coal City Community Unit School District 1 issued the following announcement on March 22.

Students in Mr. Leve’s 5th grade science class are currently preparing for the annual CCIS Science Fair that will be held on Wednesday, April 17th.

The students are learning about the scientific method by exploring topics of their interest.

Students worked in groups to solve important problems such as:

1) How strong of an earthquake can a building stand?

2) Designing a parachute that safely falls to the ground

3) Designing a zip-line

4) Design a carrying device for people using crutches

6) What type of drink stains teeth the most; coffee, tea, soda, or grape juice?

The students had to design and run an experiment and analyze their results in order to come to a final conclusion about their problem. Following their experiment, students were required to put together a display board to present their findings and to be able to share their project with others. Please stop out at CCIS on Wednesday, April 17th from 5:30 PM to 6:15 PM if you’re interested in finding out the solutions to these and other puzzling problems/questions.
