COAL CITY COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 1: Future Business Leaders of America Students Compete at State Leadership Conference

Coal City Community Unit School District 1 issued the following announcement on April 5.

During April 5-6, the Coal City High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) attended the Illinois State Leadership Conference in Springfield, IL. Coal City members who attended this conference got the chance to expand their business skills and compete in competitive events. Out of the nineteen students who participated in eleven different events, fifteen students made their way to the stage and placed in the top ten.

Three students placed first in E-business. This makes the 2nd state champions in the five year history of the chapter. Michael Butler took 2nd in Introduction to Information Technology, Nolan O’Keefe placed 2nd in Computer Game and Simulation Programming, Alexis Medina and Natalie Durham received 6th place in Public Service Announcement, Jessica Murphy was awarded 9th place for Publication Design, Preston Johnson, Cody Rogers and Ben Kreiger took 6th place in Emerging Business Issues, Lynzie Norris, Molly Stiles, and Lauren Ferrari on getting 8th place in Business Ethics, and Lauren Phillips received 8th place in Sales Presentation.

Five of the Coal City state finishers that placed in the top four have the opportunity to attend the National Leadership Conference this summer in San Antonio, Texas. When not competing, members got the chance to attend educational workshops and tour the Capitol building in Springfield. Coal City’s FBLA chapter looks forward to finishing their year strong and returning to SLC next year with more competitors.
