This past week, GAVC brought 56 students to Springfield for the SkillsUSA State Competition. The following programs were represented: Cosmetology, Fire Science, Computer Graphics, Criminal Justice, Welding, Automotive, IIT/CISCO, and Early Childhood Education. The students arrived on Thursday and the competition began with an Opening Ceremony. All of the students then attended a debriefing where they were told the guidelines for their competition as well as handing in their resumes. Bright and early Friday morning, the competitors reported to their assigned locations and the competitions began. Some students competed all day while others students have time limits to their competition. The students returned to the hotel and shared their competition stories with their GAVC advisors, fellow competitors, and other GAVC students.

The highly anticipated Award Ceremony kicked off Saturday morning. We are very proud to report the following winners from GAVC:

State Champions - Kimberly McDaniel in Adobe Photoshop and Mason Mulcahy in Advertising Design. Mason will represent GAVC at nationals in Louisville this coming June.

2nd Place Winners – Richard Young in Welding, Kimberly McDaniel in T-Shirt Design, and Alexis Smyk, Angelica Olivares, & Hannah Hitchcock in Preschool Interactive Bulletin Boards.

3rd Place Winners – Naomi Neill in Adobe Photoshop, Daniel Rodriguez in Welding, and Logan Gossett, Jeanette Serrano, and Cassie Labanowski in Preschool Interactive Bulletin Boards. Congratulations to all State Champions and place winners. GAVC is very proud of all of students for representing our school with the highest integrity, manners, and professionalism.
