Coal City Community Unit School District 1 issued the following announcement on Sept. 27.
Mrs. Haab’s class spent a day with learning activities centered around one of their favorite book characters, Pete the Cat, created by Eric Litwin.
Students enjoyed the stories in the set which convey the message to keep their head up when unexpected things happen.
At the reading table, students practiced reading their sight words and color words in a cat reader.
Students played a letter and sound game. They had to watch out for the special strawberry, blueberry, and mud cards which correlate to the story. If they drew those cards, they might lose a card with the berries or the game might be over with the mud card!
Students worked on strengthening fine motor muscles and using school tools correctly by creating their own Pete the Cat character craft.
Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons introduces subtraction as Pete’s buttons fall off in the story. During math, students used buttons and dice to make 10.
Students also practiced AB and ABC button patterns in a booklet.
We had a fun day of learning with Pete the Cat!
