Morris Community High School District 101 Parent Teacher Advisory Committee met Dec. 9.

Present- Cheryl Kingsbury, Kim Puckett, Kenzie Puckett, Matt Grant, Abby Cunningham, Scot Hastings, Suzanne Phillips, Brenda Edwards, Haley Collins, Liz Lee, Mark Overbeck, Mitch and Denise Roether, Scott Evans, Jeremiah Farrell.
Review Student Model Handbook updates
Attached are the current updates that are recommended for our 2020-2021 student handbook. There were no concerns mentioned with regard to each update that Mr. Farrell read.
Current MCHS discipline policies and other student issues
Continue Round Table Discussion on student/teacher/parent issues and concerns
1. Technology- Mr. Farrell reported after discussing with administration and several teachers that technology in the classroom would continue to be monitored by the classroom teacher and dealt with case by case. Banning items like i-watches and other technologies could be more of a concern in enforcing. Mrs. Edwards asked if they could have students take them off during a test and the consensus from the group was that would be appropriate.
Mr. Farrell talked about the possibility of providing students with a WiFi connection that would be suitable for students to utilize for ommunication purposes and less for games and watching videos. This is a work in progress and may be for next year.
2. BookBags - Mr. Farrell reported after discussing with administration and after careful consideration, felt that things seem to be going smoothly with how things are. Taking a proactive approach to social/emotional supports, and building positive relationships with our students, hinders from the safety measure in not carrying book bags at this time. Some future possibilities that administration will look into are clear book bags and the upgrades of our building, specifically our lockers.
MCHS Safety Discussion
Mr. Farrell reported that administration has been looking into a new emergency response "code red" system that would allow for a quicker reaction time to incidents. The system would be infused into the practices/drills we already have and be implemented around the building over the course of a 2-3 year process.
