The Village of Channahon in Grundy and Will counties was ranked as Illinois' second safest city, according to an analysis of crime statistics conducted for the National Council of Home Safety and Security 2020 Safest Cities report.
Campton Hills in Kane County came in as the state's safest city with only 1 violent crime.
Channahon, with a population of 12,800, had less than 10 violent crimes in 2018.
No. 3 on the list was Palatine, a northwestern suburb of Chicago. Located in Cook County, this village’s violent crime rates sits at 0.41 per 1,000 people. At No. 4 is Palos Hills, which is another Cook County city. It had a violent crime rate of about one offense per 1,000 people.
