ILLINOIS EDUCATION ASSOCIATION MINOOKA REGION: Bloomington-Normal Educators Create Searchable, Remote Learning Resource Webpage For Parents, Community Members

Illinois Education Association Minooka Region issued the following announcement on April 4.

The Unit Five Education Association (UFEA) launched a new website to help parents and other community members easily access remote learning resources for students. All Illinois schools remain closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We miss our students. We miss being in school with them. We know this is hard for everyone. That’s why we created this online directory,” UFEA President Lindsey Dickinson said. “We want to do all we can to continue to connect with our students and to help them continue to grow and learn.”

UFEAcares.org features a searchable, remote learning resource directory with categories like math, science, arts and game-based learning. UFEA plans to continually update the remote resources for as long as the school closure lasts. Parents, students and community members can also contact UFEA directly with questions through a link on the page.

“There is no way remote learning can replace, reproduce, or replicate the one-on-one interactions that happen in our schools every day,” Dickinson said. “All we can do as educators, students, parents and caregivers is to do the best we can. We know we are, and will be, better together.”

UFEA represents nearly 1,000 teachers, social workers, nurses, psychologists and school counselors in the Mclean County Unit District 5 school district. Unit 5 serves more than 13,000 students across 25 schools.
