Grundy Economic Development Council reports some prospects despite coronavirus

Oil

Even with the unemployment rate expected to climb as the impact of the coronavirus continues to be felt, Grundy Economic Development Council spokeswoman Nancy Norton feels there’s reason for optimism going forward.

“At the beginning of our stay-at-home order, everybody just paused everything and now we’re starting to hopefully affect the curve,” Norton told WCSJ News of the way the pandemic has locally impacted the price of oil. “We don’t know when, but I have had four projects this week reach out to me looking at land, asking about where there’s infrastructure. That was really heartening because the previous two weeks it was crickets.”

Norton said the last several weeks have proven to be tough times for pretty much everyone.

“The uncertainty is tough for everybody but I did have some people kind of putting their toe back in the water, saying we know this event going to end,” she said. “We don’t know exactly what it’s going to look like but our project still has merit. That was a good sign.”
