DRESDEN NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT 2: NRC Proposes $7,500 Fine to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center

Fines

Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Unit 2 issued the following announcement on Oct. 9.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is proposing to fine St. Joseph Regional Medical

Center $7,500 for several violations of regulatory requirements at its facility in Lewiston, Idaho.

The violations were documented in a Jan. 30 inspection report and are described in an

Oct. 7 letter to company officials. The inspection was conducted July 8-9, 2019, and

Oct. 21, 2019.

The NRC held a regulatory teleconference with company officials on Aug. 25 during which

the apparent violations, their significance, their root causes, and corrective actions were discussed.

Based on the information collected during the inspection and the information provided during the

conference, the NRC has determined that several violations of NRC requirements occurred.

The violations are related to the licensee’s failure to properly prepare written directives for

therapeutic doses of unsealed radioactive material and implement and maintain procedures for

certain therapeutic administrations involving radioactive material.

The company has 30 days to dispute the fine or request involvement of a third-party

mediator to resolve the issue.
