Coal City Community Unit School District 1 issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
In 2020 The Coaler Speech team continues to operate despite the pandemic. However, the extracurricular event looks quite a bit different this year. Practices now happen via google meet. Instead of taking chilly bus rides early in the morning on Saturday speeches are uploaded via video to be ranked by judges. So far the team has competed at tournaments in Bloomington, Normal, and Seneca. On December 19 the team will host its first virtual tournament. This tournament will be the first time the Coalers will have a live final round this season. While the year has had its unique challenges it has brought new opportunities as well as for the first time students have been able to compete in three categories when in the past they were restricted to two. At the Normal tournament, the team had its first triple tournament champion. Last season the Coaler Speech team ended the year as regional champions. http://edl.io/n1357112
