Last month, a referendum was held on a tax increase that was proposed by Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker.
The referendum was soundly defeated, but House Democrats are trying to move forward nonetheless with a proposed tax increase by Mike Madigan. The effort is apparently in order to gain the approval of House Democrats as Madigan seeks a 20th term as Speaker.
In response to this proposal and effort on the part of Madigan and the rest of the House Democrats, voters have promoted a petition to let legislators know that they are not in favor of a tax hike. Those who are interested in signing the petition or learning more about it can review it online.
Madigan and Pritzker have long been the target of House Republicans who say they favor impractical and reckless tax hikes that put the burden on the middle class.
