Next month, students in the Coal City School District are scheduled to return to the classroom full-time.
Superintendent Kent Bugg said they settled on a March 11 start date to resume in-person learning based on the teaching staff's feedback.
"We're still in the process of finalizing our transition plan. We hope to have that done in the next couple [of] weeks," Bugg told WCSJ News in February.
The school board had put together what he called a "temporary fix" or hybrid learning model in August.
Bugg said they wanted students to physically spend some time in front of their teachers instead of just virtually.
"We knew that the purpose of that model was to help us mitigate COVID issues," Bugg said. "What we have seen after having six months of data is what a lot of school districts have seen is that our data shows that our schools are safe places for staff and students."
Bugg said both the COVID-19 cases and absences associated with either a positive test or quarantine period are down.
"We all know that the best place for our kids is in front of their teachers," Bugg said.
