Firefighters with the Galesburg Fire Department raised more than $15,000 in a virtual fundraising event to support finding treatments and cures for Muscular Dystrophy (MD).

Members of the Local 555 joined together to host Fill the Boot, a virtual event to raise funds for families dealing with MD, ALS, and similar neurodegenerative diseases.

“Galesburg Firefighters have once again shown their immense dedication and care for families during their 2020 Fill the Boot,” Development Director Kelsey Tomko said in the release about the Fill the Boot effort. “We’re so grateful for the generosity of those in the community who have supported this mission once again this year.”

The department raised $15,460 to combat neuromuscular diseases. The Galesburg Firefighters Local 555 also seeks donations to assist frontline workers in the community through its COVID-19 Emergency Fund. One can find more information about the Fire Department and its fundraisers through Facebook and its website.
