The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) has awarded a $454,165 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to the Village of Braceville for improvements to the storm water drainage system.
State Sen. Patrick Joyce (D-Essex), recently took to Facebook to discuss the importance of the grant.
“This grant helps the village continue to move forward with public infrastructure improvements,” Joyce said in his post. “I applaud village officials on being proactive in applying for state funding opportunities, and I look forward to seeing this project develop.”
A press release that Joyce shared also stated that he was a constant advocate on behalf of the village during the grant grant application process, working at the state level to assist the village in securing funding for the project. His view is that the money will assist in bringing a welcome change to the community.
The CDBG program grants are meant to assist low- to moderate-income communities in making improvements that will mitigate conditions considered detrimental to public health and safety, the press release states. In Braceville, the funding will go toward storm water drainage improvements on the east side of the village.
The entirety of the CDBG grants awarded this year by the DCEO went to water and sewer projects, according to the release.
