Computercoffee

Dresden Nuclear Power Station, Unit 2 issued the following announcement on Apr. 23.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a webinar with BWXT Nuclear Operations Group Inc. on April 28 to discuss performance at the company’s nuclear fuel fabrication facility located near Lynchburg, Virginia.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time, with NRC employees responsible for oversight and inspections from the NRC Region II office in Atlanta and BWXT NOG officials participating. After the formal portion of the meeting, the NRC, including the inspectors, will be available to answer questions from the public.

The public and media will be able to observe the meeting and presentation on Teams and will need to call 888-810-4797, passcode 3061191 to hear the discussion, and participate in the Q&A session afterward.

The NRC assessed performance at the BWXT NOG facility for the period beginning Jan. 1, 2019, and ending Dec. 31, 2020, in the categories of safety operations, radiological controls, facility support, and other areas.

The NRC also evaluates security but will not discuss security measures during the meeting due to the sensitive nature of the information. The two-year assessment determined that BWXT NOG conducted NRC-regulated activities in a safe and secure manner that protected public health and the environment. In the context of nuclear safety, the NRC’s review did not identify areas needing improvement in the performance categories listed above.

The agency will continue the normal inspection program for NRC-licensed nuclear fuel facilities of this type.

The NRC letter addressing the licensee performance review for the BWXT NOG facility is available on the NRC website.
