Illinois State Senate Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion met March 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Present: Chair JJ Pionke, Kaamilyah Abdullah-Span, Priyanka Chopra, Yih-Kuen Jan, Yvette Johnson-Walker, Kathryn Oberdeck  

Ex officio: Giocanda Guerra Perez

Absent: Ujjal Bhowmik, Meghan Burke, Eric Catania, Emma Cole, Rolando Romero

I. CALL TO ORDER 

A regular meeting of the Senate Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (EQ) was called to order at 2:00 pm with Chair Pionke presiding. 

II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 

The minutes of the February 12, 2021 meeting were approved as distributed by roll call vote. 

Yes: Pionke, Abdullah-Span, Chopra, Jan, Johnson-Walker, Oberdeck  

No: None 

Abstain: None 

III. PUBLIC COMMENT 

No requests received.  

IV. CHAIR’S REMARKS 

Chair Pionke shared a revised draft of EQ.21.01 to the committee for review prior to the meeting. Pionke shared that the Senate approved the Bylaws change and the new name is Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. 

V. OLD BUSINESS 

EQ.20.05, Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Resolution  

No discussion.  

EQ.21.01, Resolution on Revised Diversity Statement (EQ.13.01) 

Further discussion was had on this resolution. 

VI. NEW BUSINESS 

EQ.21.02, Provost Communication No. 9 Review 

The committee started discussing the documents under review. Further discussion will be had at the next meeting. 

VII. ADJOURNMENT 

The meeting was adjourned at 3:10 pm.
