Analysis: Coal City administrators rank 258th in state for average pay

Administrators in Coal City Community Unit School District 1 earn an average of $111,881 per year, ranking 258th out of 864 districts in Illinois, according to a Grundy Reporter analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The 2020 average is 14.2 percent higher than in 2016 and 3.5 percent higher than in 2011. District administrators make 0.5 percent more than the state average of $111,293.

Administrator salaries depend on the district's size, location and resources, as well as the individual's level of experience and education, according to the Illinois State Board of Education report.

The Coal City School District in Grundy County enrolled 2175 students in 2019-2020. There is an average of 188 students for every administrator, compared to a statewide ratio of 171 to 1.
