Illinois state Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) congratulated a local student on their SkillsUSA championship.

According to the Morris Herald-News, Robert Osborne brought home the title of SkillsUSA Illinois State Champion for Criminal Justice in April. The Morris City Council recognized Osborne's efforts and achievements in an early-August meeting.

“He’s a great young man. He’s done a tremendous job at all of these competitions, and it’s just great to have kids that are doing well and excelling at the things they want to be doing in life. So, we are very fortunate, and we are hoping we can even get him down the line,” Mayor Chris Brown said to the Morris Herald-News.

Rezin sent a shout-out to Osborn, writing 'Congratulations, Robert Osborn!' in a Facebook post.

The criminal justice competition includes a written test and practical exams to judge a student's knowledge of the field. SkillsUSA notes that the competition is for students who are preparing to become police officers or to work in other areas of criminal justice.

“Nationals had a lot more than state at roughly six competitions, where we did something along the lines as a suspect interview, a 911 hangup, a disturbance between two people that just had a traffic accident-it was more treacherous than state, but it was more enjoyable,” Osborn said to the Morris Herald-News.
