Illinois state Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) has been making posts supporting state Rep. Sandy Hamilton (R-Springfield) in her campaign for the 48th District State Senate seat.

"Knock knock knockin’ on doors for Sandy 4 Senate Sandy Hamilton, husband Bob and many volunteers talked to constituents this afternoon in the Washington Park area," Rezin said in a recent Facebook post. "Sandy is a mom, coach and small business owner who is concerned about the economy and the safety of our communities. VOTE for Sandy Hamilton for State Senate - 48th District"

Hamilton was elected to the Illinois State House of Representatives in December 2021. She is currently a member of these committees: Appropriations-Higher Education, Appropriations-General Service, Financial Institutions, Insurance, State Government Administration, and Transportation: Vehicles & Safety.

Before being elected to the House, Hamilton was a member of Capital Area Realtors (CAR), where she served on the board of directors, the Finance Committee, and as an executive board member, her campaign website said. She has been on the Awards Selection Task Force and is also a member of the Commercial Real Estate Network (CREN), serving as its president. In 2019, she was appointed to the Economic and Community Development Commission (EDC).

In a recent meeting with the new University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) Chancellor Dr. Janet Gooch, Hamilton learned about the university and how things are going there.

“The University of Illinois system is our flagship for higher education in Illinois and I am pleased to learn that enrollment is up 6.4 percent over last year at UIS,” Hamilton said on her website. “UIS has been ranked the top public regional university in Illinois for the fourth year in a row by U.S. News & World Report and top three best public regional university in the Midwest Region. We should all be very proud of their recognition!”

Hamilton and Gooch spoke about the downtown Springfield business incubator Innovate Springfield, which is affiliated with UIS under an agreement aimed at expanding economic growth, entrepreneurship opportunities and social progress in the city. Innovate Springfield was the first hub of the Illinois Innovation Network (IIN), an initiative led by the University of Illinois System to accelerate statewide job creation and economic development through groundbreaking research and innovation.
