Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) used social media to share her takeaways from participating in the recent Veterans Parade in Utica.

“Riding on the back of a Harley in the Veterans Parade was the best way to spend my Sunday,” she posted on Facebook. “Thanks to our Veterans and Starve Rock ABATE.”

Rezin has honored veterans in other ways, too. Recently, she has put out the word that Illinois Senate Republicans were looking for veterans and their families to share stories and images about their lives.

Rezin posted on her website, asking people to get involved: To showcase the legacy of our nation’s brave men and women, Rezin is urging residents to submit a photograph and written story about any veteran, so it can be displayed. Families who would like to participate in the display should submit a photo and a written story (max: 250 words). Be sure to include the following information: name, military branch (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy) and conflict they served in, as appropriate (Afghanistan, Iraq, Sept.11, Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, Peacetime, other).

Military photos are preferred, but ones of the person not in uniform are acceptable. Submissions can be made via email to veteransday@sgop.ilga.gov by Nov. 10, and they will be accepted through Nov. 28. The display will be updated daily to include new entries. Submissions can also be mailed to Veterans Day Wall, 108 Statehouse, Springfield, IL 62706. For questions, please call (217) 782-0956.

Rezin was appointed to the state senate on Dec. 14, 2010, and has continually represented the 38th Legislative District since then. She was chosen as Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate Republican Caucus in 2021.

She has also recently opined about the Great American Rail Trail and what it offers. The I & M Canal and the Hennepin Canal might soon get a biking trail connecting the two canals. “Our goal is to create a 16-mile trail that connects the I & M Canal and the Hennepin Canal Parkway,” Rezin wrote on Facebook. “This project will allow everyone to bike thru Illinois on a connected, safe trail. Indiana is working on a similar project.”
