V. Health Department Operations Report
Michelle Pruim, Public Health Administrator, updated the present Board of Health Members with Administrative operations. The Health Department has vacancies for the following positions: Part-Time Care Coordinator, Information & Assistance Specialist, Public Health Nurse (Behavioral Health and Nursing) and Finance Associate. All interested, qualified candidates are encouraged to apply on the Grundy County website. The division has found a qualified candidate for the Director of Operations and Compliance position. The candidate has over twenty years of public health experience and knowledge and will begin employment mid-February. Over the last several months, Health Department leadership has continued efforts to attract and retain new and current workforce. This has allowed us to stay competitive and look further into current benefit plans. The Health Department, Board of Health members and County Leadership continue to discuss the new county facility. They've wrapped up discussion on programmatic needs and have developed drafts of the lot and how to utilize the space provided. In the spring, there is determination to present a draft Strategic Plan update to the Board of Health. Health Department leadership has reviewed clients surveys, employee surveys and stakeholder surveys to develop a three year plan to drive services and community needs. The overall goal is to provide prevention services for clients and residents.
Kathryn Harrison, Director of Nursing, updated the present Board of Health Members with Nursing operations. The Nursing Division has completed their re-enrollment for the Vaccine For Children (VFC) program for 2023. This will allow children of the community that are covered under the Medicaid insurance, are under-insured or have no insurance, the opportunity to receive vaccines through the Health Department. On a meeting with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), it was stated that sexually-transmitted diseases (STD) have increased through out the state and county. There has been efforts to outreach education in the community about STD's and there has been discussed on ways to prevent the spread of diseases. The division has free contraceptives, information on STD's and resources for interested community members. Next week, the division will be completing their annual Family Case Management audit that reviews their charts and program conduction for the grant.
Laura Wells, Director of Environmental Health, updated the present Board of Health Members with Environmental Health operations. The division has found a qualified candidate for the Sanitarian position. The candidate has recently graduated from Illinois State and will begin employment mid-Febrary. After gathering information, sending off electronic files and attending preliminary meetings, the division has received communication that they have passed their Food Program review that was completed by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) for their policies and procedures. The division continues to stay busy with yearly invoice collection and adhering to their updated fee structures.
Darcy Jasien, Director of Behavioral Health, updated the present Board of Health Members with Behavioral Health operations. The division continues to grow with their most recent new hire for a Child and Adolescent Therapist position. The candidate will start at the end of January and will primarily be assisting the Child and Adolescent team with child therapy services and will be traveling to schools to provide therapy to school children. This position is funded by the Community Foundation. Their internship program has continued to grow and allows the division to service more community members with behavioral health workforce. Darcy has been meeting with first responders to increase our outreach and develop a prevention strategy for the community with those law enforcement may have in common with active clients of the Health Department. The meetings are primarily based around prevention and ways to assist children that may be dealing with a mental health crisis.
Tania Schwer, Director of Senior Programs, updated the present Board of Health Members with Senior Program operations. AgeGuide has communicated the American Rescue Plan Act funds will continue through 2024 and may be continuing into 2025. The Aging Cares Community Care Program Case Management system will be rolling out. Tania spoke about available and limited resources, navigation of the new system and the learning curve of the new system. This system will be replacing their current access system, CMIS. There has been implementation for the Senior Program division to begin conducting six-month face-to-face visits with community care program case coordinated clients. This will allow for an initial assessment, a six-month assessment and an annual assessment moving forward. There is encouragement to meet with senior citizen clients more regularly by the state. This will allow review of the services, plan of care and suggestions for re-determination.
