In a bid to enhance the safety of minors across the state, Senate Republicans have put forth a bill that mandates the public display of child abuse reporting information in various establishments. House Bill 4350 stipulates that certain establishments must display a notice, which is to be developed by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) in partnership with an accredited Children’s Advocacy Center. This notice will provide essential contact information and guidance on how minors can report instances of physical and sexual abuse.

The legislation specifically targets hotels, motels, tattoo parlors, bus stations, and hospital emergency rooms. It also requires DCFS to make the model notice available for download on its website.

An amended version of House Bill 4350 was unanimously passed by the Senate on May 16. The bill now returns to the House for a concurrence vote.
