Harry James "Jim" Benner, aged 81, of Morris, Illinois, passed away on November 23, 2024, joining his beloved wife Sharon, with whom he shared nearly 59 years of devoted partnership. Harry's journey began on April 7, 1943, in Streator, Illinois, born to Harry T. and Patricia Benner. His family relocated to Morris in 1948, where they established Harry's Shoe Repair. From a young age, Harry displayed a strong work ethic, beginning his career at just ten years old as a shoe shine boy for Governor Stratton. After graduating from Morris Community High School in 1961 and serving in the United States Army, Harry returned to Morris to manage the family business, Harry's TV & Appliance, in the 1960s and 70s.

In 1974, Harry embarked on a new chapter at Armak (later AkzoNobel/Nouryon) in Morris, where he spent 30 years dedicated to the company, eventually retiring as Training Manager in 2003. Colleagues respected Harry for his kind but firm demeanor, and he was known for his caring approach towards their well-being and safety.

Harry's faith was central to his life, evident in his role as a founding member of Friends in Christ Lutheran Church. He faced life's trials with grace and unwavering trust in God. Harry displayed remarkable resilience, notably participating in experimental cancer treatments in the 1960s that later contributed to medical advancements. This fighting spirit defined his character, inspiring all who knew him.

Beyond his professional life, Harry found joy in life's simple pleasures, particularly in camping trips with Sharon and their sons during the summers. He is survived by his sons Scott (Emily) Benner and Shawn (Tamara) Benner, and adored grandson Elliot Benner, to whom he was affectionately known as "Papa." He is also survived by sister-in-law Bonnie Osmundson, brother-in-law Gary (Judy) Bright, niece Sara, nephews Kevin, Keith, Kyle, Mark, and Daniel, along with many cousins, great-nieces, and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Sharon, brother Paul, and sister Patricia.

Harry's commitment to his loved ones and his unwavering faith in God epitomized his character. His profound impact is evident in the memories he left behind, filled with care, support, and faith, enduring in the hearts of those he touched.

A visitation for Harry will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home in Morris, followed by a celebration of his life. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
