Fire departments in Illinois now have the chance to apply for a new grant program designed to aid in the construction and rehabilitation of fire stations. The initiative, launched by the office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal, offers grants up to $350,000 per department, with a total of $5 million available.

To be eligible for these grants, departments must maintain an active registration with SAM.gov and be registered on the state's grantee portal. Compliance with the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS) is also required for at least two years, specifically from December 2022 through November 2024. Departments need to report all incidents they respond to, including ambulance calls, as part of the eligibility requirements.

Applications are due by February 28, 2025, either electronically or postmarked by that date. Further details on the program and application process can be accessed online.
